The First Day of School America Video

This video features firsthand accounts and how-to ideas from participating schools and communities in Nashville, Tennessee; Hartford, Connecticut; North Bennington, Vermont; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Salinas, California. Speakers reflect on First Day's effectiveness in stimulating greater year-round parental involvement in education. Running time is approximately eight minutes.

The Video is presented in several formats. You will need either the Real Player G2 (TM), or the Quicktime Player (TM).

Click Here, to play the Real Video Version (low resolution). The Video requires at least a 56k modem, however a DSL or Cable connection is highly recommended.

Click Here, if you need a high resolution copy for presentation to groups (*learn more). The format is Quicktime. The download is large (20MB). To save in Windows, right click and select "save target as" to download the movie file to your hard drive. You will need Quicktime version 5. If you have a fast internet connection this version can be viewed from within a browser.

The video features interviews with teachers, students, parents, corporate sponsors, and a televised conversation between Terry Ehrich, President of First Day Foundation, and Vice President Gore. In addition, clips from network coverage of First Day events are included. Running time is 14 minutes.


56k Modem
Click Here, if you have a 56k modem. The Video is lower quality, but the audio is quite good. This version should play even on slower connections, but may pause occasionally on 28k connections. We think you will find this Real Video will give you a good overview of First Day of School Holiday.

DSL, Cable

Click Here, if you have a DSL or Cable connection. The picture quality is superior to the 56k version above, but you MUST have a high speed connection.

*The Quicktime movie is high enough resolution so that it can be shown full screen to groups. We tried to find a balance between a reasonable download time, and good image quality. In order to play a Quicktime movie full screen, as though it was a DVD or video tape, you must register your copy of the Quicktime Player.
